Equipment Update - “Pressing” Through Tough Times
Nova Animal Feeds, Pretoria and Malmesbury – South Africa
In the midst of the pandemic and associated economic pressure on the local market, Nova Feeds has remained undeterred in their delivery of high quality animal nutrition and increased production capacity and efficiency on their pelleting lines in their Pretoria and Malmesbury factories. In efforts to streamline production and boost capacities, Nova selected Dalein Agriplan as its preferred supplier to replace two of their pellet presses in these two factories with PTN Progress 1000- and PTN Progress 900 Pellet Presses respectively.
Pelleting Technology Netherlands (PTN), is a specialist in the development, production and servicing of pelletisers and related machinery for the production of animal feed. Since 1974 PTN has been active on a global scale in the development, engineering, production, sale and servicing of pelletisers and related machinery for the compound feed, recycling and biomass industries.
and as such was the project lead on both projects with the Nova group in the supply of the pelleting equipment for the line expansions.
The PTN900 pellet press, as installed in the Malmesbury factory has been equipped with larger 2x 200kW motors (160kW motors standard) to account for the demanding product that is handled in the mill. This press is capable of pelleting at capacities of between ±13-18Tons/hr depending on the ration to be pelleted.
The PTN1000 pellet press, as installed in the Pretoria factory is the largest of it’s kind installed in the county. This press is capable of the delivery of pelleted feeds at capacities of ±15-23Tons/hr, depending on ration composition to be pelleted. All press auxiliary elements have also sourced from PTN as per Dalein’s design, such as feeder augers, conditioners, steam dosing sets and other supporting items to the installation.
In addition to the pellet presses, Nova has also decided to replace their continuous fat applicators with Dalein Agriplan MPT1200 Twin Shaft Paddle Mixers as batch fat applicators in both these factories. Batch fat coating could be considered to be a more effective oil application operation in post pelleting fat applications when compared to continuous coating, due to higher reliability of the measured product quantities in the process and inherent process checks to verify that application has indeed been done. This fat coating system has become very popular in the market and as a nutritional tool in formulation of broiler pellet rations. Another advantage of post pelleting application is that an increase in pellet quality could be experienced in the use of this processing technique – due to better binding of ingredients in the pellets while in the press, facilitated by a reduced fat content of the mash product for the ration before pelleting. By using post pellet application, rations can maintain energy content with high pellet durability.
Dalein Agriplan is proud to be a partner of the Nova Animal Feeds group and strive to support them in all areas of their production network.
"Dalein Agriplan's interaction with Nova has always been professional with regards to project planning and implementation. I can recommend Dalein Agriplan's equipment to any feed mill world wide - their equipment and services rendered are of a high quality and delivers value for money. They deliver exceptional after sales service and work closely with the client in planning, design and execution of projects."
